Human Growth and Development
(3) Human Growth and Development: Candidates who complete the program are accomplished school counselors and educational leaders who have the knowledge, ability, and cultural competence to apply comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of human growth and development to improve student learning and well-being.
Throughout my internships I have been able to work with students meeting them where they are in their stages of development in order to act as an ally and advocate for them as they pursue academic success.
Sometimes this means one on one counseling, or classroom guidance. However, it was also just being there and connecting with students during supervision periods before school, recess, and lunch, or playing games, sports, or on the playground with them. Greeting students and noticing small things about them allowed me to form connections and build relationship with them, so that when counseling was necessary they felt more comfortable.
(a) Develop coordination, collaboration, referral and team-building efforts with teachers, parents, support personnel and community resources to promote program objectives and facilitate successful student development and achievement of all students.(b) Have strategies of leadership designed to enhance the learning environment of schools.
Collaboration with Educators and Administrators
"Brandy is a great counselor. Her knowledge of best practices around counseling and ability to motivate learners in this area is superb. I was able to evaluate her performance and responsibilities throughout the 2012-13 school year, as I worked closely with her. She has become an active member of the Hamlin community. Brandy is thorough, organized, and a team player. She participated in many SST meetings, staff meetings, as well as in-service training's. Additionally, Brandy has gone above and beyond the duties associated with requirements of her counseling program – she has become an instrumental component to our school and its success."
