Welcome! Bienvenidos! Chào mung ! Bienvenue!
Hello, my name is Brandeis Zaklan and I am excited to share with you my Personal Professional Portfolio. My portfolio will highlight the educational experiences and training I have acquired on my path to becoming a Professional School Counselor. It is my hope that my passion for fostering effective counseling relationships that are grounded in respect for diversity, support of personal and academic growth, while facilitating opportunities for increased positive self-esteem and self-efficacy will be evident.
Throughout both of my internship experiences and program studies I have been able to work collaboratively with students, their families, school staff, administration, and within those communities to implement an Action Research study, create a Comprehensive Guidance Plan, and flush out the those resources that are necessary to effectively serve the student population I worked with.
Growing up as an Army “brat” moving across the country, I was fortunate to experience various regional and cultural differences across America, this combined with my own personal experiences of 15 years as a member of the Air National Guard, and years as a Teacher in both public and private schools, as well as my successful completion of the Masters in Counseling program at Portland State University make me uniquely qualified to be a successful Professional School Counselor!
My personal counseling style utilizes a variety of counseling theories and techniques: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Solutions Focused Therapy, Functional Behavior Assessments, Structural Therapy, Systems Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, genograms, art therapy, play therapy, sand tray, and I approach each client with the Rogerian concept of unconditional positive regard. Additionally, I am an advocate for social justice and gender equity.
My strengths include:
