American School Counselor Association, Oregon School Counselor Association, & Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society
I am proud to say that I have been a member of ASCA and OSCA since I entered the School Counseling program at Portland State University, and that I was able to become a member of the Counselor Honor Society - Chi Sigma Iota, upon receiving my grades after the first quarter of my counseling program.
The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) is an organization that supports school counselors' in our efforts to help students find success in the areas of academic, personal/social and career development so they can succeed in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible, positive members of society.
Being a member of ASCA not only makes me feel included in a peer group that I believe in, but also provides me benefits of continued professional development, access to publications and current research, as well as supporting advocacy for school counseling as a whole.
As an Oregon School Counselor Association (OSCA) member, I get the opportunity to be part of a group that advocates for my profession in my home state. I also get the opportunity to vote for or be a part of the governing board, elect/be elected for School Counselor of the year or other awards, get job information, and one of the things I love most about OSCA - access to the Outlook newsletter.
Being a member of Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) is important to me because it speaks to my commitment level and approach to becoming a Professional School Counselor. Additionally, it connects me both locally and nationally to other counselors who ensured that their efforts in becoming a school counselor were top notch.
